Ballston Beach, in Truro, is another one of my favorite places in Cape Cod. To get to the beach, you walk up a steep trail down the dune. The ocean there is generally rough; you need to be a strong swimmer. But the real surprise of Ballston Beach is the hill behind it, which you reach via an old fire road that traverses the dunes covered in various kinds of creeping plants. From there the view is spectacular. The blue, blue ocean is set against the wild grasses covering the dunes and some wooden structures that have strong angular mass. .
