Hardings Beach is in Chatham, Cape Cod. A mile-long beach trail ending at a light house passes through hilly dunes and grasses while the breezes from Nantucket Sound cool off the heat of a summer afternoon. This Cape Cod landscape painting was done in my Philadelphia studio in the winter as I was remembering those dunes and grasses and puffy clouds in a cerulean sky, memories of many summers past fused into a semi-abstraction in which the contours of the dunes assert their own--properly painterly--rules.
