Boats are an integral element in the Cape Cod landscape. Be they sailboats on the horizon, workboats, dories, motorboats, whatever, they are reminders that the Cape Cod landscape is always and ultimately about the proximity of the land and the water, their inseparability. As a man without a boat, I can personally testify to that romantic longing for a boat that is the deep subject of "Boating Dreams." Yet it is also about my attachment to the safety of the pier.
