Turbulent Gases in the Omega/Swan Nebula (Hubble Series 1)
by Jerome Schwartz
This image from the Hubble space telescope is probably one of the most striking in the whole series. In my painting of it, I strove to juxtapose colors in such a way as to suggest that in space, as in our earthbound life, there is a struggle between opposite energies or forces. That is, the blues symbolize for me a kind of ideal or pure or lighter region and the browns and reds symbolize the heavier, darker regions.
